Dedicate Your Diploma, Ignite Her Hope.

Dedicate your graduation milestone to an Afghan woman denied education. A simple act of solidarity with a profound impact.

A Bridge of Hope: The Twinning Diploma Initiative

The Twinning Diplomas initiative is a safe, effective, and very human way to express your support for Afghan women and girls currently denied their right to education. It costs no money and requires just 10 minutes of your time.

We invite graduating students (Associate, Bachelor's, Master's, PhD) at any institution around the world to dedicate their academic achievement to a specific Afghan woman denied education. This action creates a powerful symbolic connection: you will celebrate your accomplishment while also highlighting the ongoing struggle for educational equality in Afghanistan.

Mission: This initiative raises awareness of human rights violations against Afghan girls and women by inviting students graduating with a diploma in any field to honor those who are denied the educational privileges and freedoms we celebrate.
Vision: We hope for a world where every girl, no matter where she is born, has the right to education and opportunity.

The Reality for Afghan Women Today

Since August 2021, when the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan, women's rights have been severely restricted, effectively erasing two decades of progress:

Banned girls from secondary school (grades 7-12)

Barred women from university education

Prohibited women from working in most professions

Restricted women's movement (male guardian required)

Closed women's educational & vocational centers

Prohibited women’s voices in public

Today, Afghanistan stands as the only country in the world that systematically denies women and girls the right to education beyond the sixth grade.

How It Works

1

Choose to Participate

If you are graduating at any degree level, dedicate your diploma to an Afghan woman who cannot do the same. Let us know your decision by filling out this form.

Note: You will be asked to give your consent to participate in this initiative.

2

Get Your 'Graduation Twin'

You will receive the first name and the initial of the last name (e.g., "Ariana A.") of a real Afghan girl or woman who would have loved to graduate like you.

To protect their identity, full names cannot be shared. This person becomes your 'graduation twin.' Please write or print their name clearly and in large letters.

3

Twinning Graduation

There are several ways to honor your 'graduation twin':

  • Pin the name to your academic cap or robe (if allowed) and take a selfie now or during your graduation ceremony.
  • Attach the name to your diploma cover and take a picture with the name clearly visible.

These are suggestions; feel free to be creative and share your ideas.

Optional Ideas:

  • Add a personal message to the picture (e.g., "Ariana K., this is in your honor").
  • Record a short video with a supportive message (e.g., "Dear Ariana K., ... I hope knowing someone cares gives you hope").
4

Getting the Message Out

Upload your picture(s) and/or video HERE. Once uploaded, they will be available globally, including to your 'twin.'

Also, share your picture(s)/video on your social media with the hashtag #GraduatingForAfghanGirls to help spread the word!

Our Approach to Safety

Your Safety (Participants)

There are no foreseeable threats to your participation. If you hold citizenship of a country which may hold this action against you, putting you at risk, please make an informed decision. You do not have to take the risk! If you agree to participate, we cannot offer any protections or guarantees of your safety.

Twin's Safety (Afghan Women)

Protecting the identity of Afghan participants is our highest priority. We cannot share their full names, photographs, location details, addresses or e-mails.

This means you will not receive an answer to your message. We recognize the natural desire to see the impact of one’s actions, but Afghan women’s safety is more important. Please be assured that your message does get to your ‘twin.’
